Find someone to share your journey with- to pray with, to serve with, to grow with

We are not called to follow Jesus alone, but with others. Whether it is your spouse, a friend, a co-worker, or a family member- find someone you can pray with regularly (even if it's over the phone). Find someone you can serve with (maybe someone who can volunteer with you at an assisted care facility or a homeless shelter). Find someone you can grow with.

1) Living a life of service for God means seeking to serve others and not be served

1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ,- 2 Peter 1:1a

Peter didn’t expect to be served, he expected to serve the Lord and serve others, just as a servant would, and just as Jesus did.

28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”- Matthew 20:28

We should live a life of service to our Heavenly Father just as Jesus did, and just as Peter did.

2) Our life of service for God starts with us becoming a part of the family of God

To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:- 2 Peter 1:1b

How do we obtain saving faith in Christ? Not by our own righteous, but by the righteousness of Christ who made the perfect sacrifice to pay the penalty of our sin.

5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, . . . through Jesus Christ our Savior- Titus 3:5-6

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.- Ephesians 2:8-10

God expects His children to do good works, but we become His children by faith, and not by our good works.

12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the [e]right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: - John 1:12

Believing on His name is taking on His name, and submitting to Him and His will for us.

3) The better we get to know our Heavenly Father and Jesus, the better we are able to experience God’s grace and peace in our lives.

2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, - 2 Peter 1:2-3

God’s grace or kindness and God’s peace can be multiplied to us as we get to know our Heavenly Father and Jesus better.

If you start with a penny on the first square of a checkerboard, and double it on each square, you have 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 pennies on the 64th square, or $92,233,720,368,547,758.07 (over 92 quadrillion dollars)

4) God has given us everything we need to fulfill our purpose in life and to be godly examples to others.

2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, - 2 Peter 1:2-3

10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.- Ephesians 2:10

5) We therefore should focus every day on how we can grow in our faith, in our love toward others, and in good works toward those in need.

5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither [e]barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. - 2 Peter 1:5-8

23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. - Colossians 3:23-24

As we follow Jesus we can bear much fruit

Those followers that abide in the way of Jesus will bear fruit that will bless others

If we follow Jesus' commands we will abide in His love and have great joy

15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

Love and Joy Perfected

9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and thatyour joy may be full. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. - John 15:1-11
